Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024, Partenariats : HAROPA PORT signs up for Paris 2024

Six months before the opening of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, HAROPA PORT signs a collaboration agreement with Paris 2024. The aim is to integrate the entire river ecosystem into the organisation and running of the Games, and to accelerate the energy transition on the Seine. This cooperation is part of a wider approach to the legacy of the event.

The Seine, its quays and its ports are at the heart of the organisation of the Olympic Games: not only because the river will host the opening ceremony and several open water events, but also because it has been used for the upstream logistics of the event and will play a major role in terms of urban river logistics.

A partnership to...

...working together to make the Seine greener

The Games are a tremendous environmental boost for the Seine: HAROPA PORT has already electrified its quays and carried out work to improve water quality. They will also accelerate the greening of the river fleet: all the promenade boats, which carry nearly 9,5 million passengers in 2023, will be powered by electric motors by 2037.

In addition to the Games, the port is also committed to ensuring that all future river transport projects offer zero-emission operation.

...increasing urban river logistics

For its part, Paris 2024 will be promoting the advantages of the Paris region port network to its partners in terms of river transport and the use of low-carbon boats for the opening ceremony.

Did you know ? HAROPA PORT is working on decarbonisation along the entire Seine axis : in February 2023, electrification work began on the maritime cruise terminals in Rouen, Honfleur and Le Havre. Since 2019, with Voies navigables de France, the port has been installing water and electricity recharging terminals for the river fleet: in total, 78 terminals will be available, including 44 on the port estate.
