innovation, river : Paris Terminal strengthens cold chain logistics on the Seine

Improving the efficiency and reliability of the river-based cold chain is the aim of the Reefer Runner 5G project — an innovation led by Paris Terminal, operator of the Gennevilliers container terminal, in partnership with Identec Solutions.

The project aims to deploy a remote monitoring system for temperature-controlled goods - such as food products, pharmaceuticals and other sensitive cargo, during transport.
Thanks to 5G technology, sensors installed on refrigerated containers enable real-time tracking of temperature, humidity and potential technical anomalies. This represents a major advantage for shippers, particularly in the agri-food sector, who benefit from enhanced traceability and better risk control.

Deployed along the Seine corridor, this innovation is fully aligned with the low-emission river logistics strategy supported by HAROPA PORT. It helps increase the appeal of river transport for sensitive goods while contributing to a reduced carbon footprint.

Through this project, Paris Terminal confirms its pioneering role in the container sector — especially in refrigerated transport, and demonstrates the innovative potential of river logistics in building a more sustainable supply chain.
