urban logistics and last-mile logistics : IKEA is using the Seine river to deliver customers in Paris

Starting December 2022, IKEA is using the Seine river to transport by boat home goods to deliver customers in Paris. The orders are prepared in its warehouse in Gennevilliers (92), transported in specific containers by boat to the port of Bercy (Paris XII) and finally loaded on electric last-mile delivery vehicles.

A new delivery system for customers in Paris

In a context of increasing online sales, IKEA France launches a multimodal home delivery system combining river logistics and electric vehicles. IKEA hopes to process 455 orders a day by boat by next month.

The boat deliveries in Paris are also the first within the IKEA group worldwide.

Reducing the environmental footprint

Some 300 000 km traveled would be saved annually. In addition, river freight emits up to five times less CO2 than road freight. It also offers more reliable deliveries in shorter time slots.

IKEA, an iconic customer

Already located in Gennevilliers with a multi-storey warehouse, IKEA France also owns a 16-hectare site in the port of Limay-Porcheville. This future distribution center must serve a vast area from Ile-de-France to the west of France.

These two new sites strengthen the collaboration between HAROPA PORT and the Swedish company and confirm the attractiveness of the port's logistics offer in Île-de-France ; but also the economic relevance of river logistics distribution in the Greater Paris area.
The french's leading port is delighted to support IKEA France in its ambition to deliver 100% of its customers with zero emission solutions throughout France by 2025.
