ecological and energy transition : €6.1 million in European funding for the electrification of terminals on the Seine axis

Launched in 2022 by the European Commission, the AFIF – Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility – supports low-carbon projects located on the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). HAROPA PORT is among of the selected beneficiaries and stands out among European ports with a project covering both shore power connections for container and river terminals (freight and river cruise) as well as winter mooring facilities for river vessels.

Four AFIF-supported projects…

Selected in this new call for projects, HAROPA PORT will receive €6.1 million out of a total projected budget of €21.4 million. This European funding will help accelerate the electrification of maritime and river terminals along the entire Seine corridor, allocated as follows:

  • Le Havre: phase 1 of the electrification of Port 2000,
  • Paris: installation of electricity supply terminals for passengers transport and river cruise,
  • Rouen, with the installation of:
    • five new freight electricity supply terminals,
    • electricity supply terminals for river cruise.

... To accelerate the decarbonisation of port calls along the Seine corridor

With this new European support, HAROPA PORT continues to implement its green corridor strategy. The objective: to enable a growing number of freight and cruise vessels to connect to the onshore power supply, thereby reducing their emissions during port calls.

This momentum places the Seine axis among the most committed European corridors in the energy transition and strengthens HAROPA PORT’s ambition to be a frontrunner regarding the greening of transport

Good to know: The AFIF programme is part of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and supports projects located along the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). HAROPA PORT is already familiar with this mechanism: several major operations have been co-funded by the CEF, including the chatière and the electrification of river quays along the corridor as part of the Borne & Eau programme, in partnership with Voies Navigables de France.
