construction, development : In Le Havre, the installation of the first Accropode™ marks a new milestone in the construction of the chatière breakwater

In Le Havre, the “chatière” construction project reached a new milestone on 27 April 2026 with the installation of the first Accropode™. This operation marks further progress in the maritime works underway to create direct inland waterway access to Port 2000.

A new stage in the construction of the breakwater

Onshore, the production of the concrete blocks designed to protect the breakwater from wave action and contribute to its stability is continuing. At Quai de l’Asie, 6,800 Accropodes™ have already been cast, out of the 19,900 required for the full construction of the breakwater.

Their installation will continue over the coming weeks and will represent a visible step forward in the project, with the gradual emergence of the breakwater structure.

A historic milestone was reached on 27 April 2026 with the installation of the first Accropode™ on the breakwater under construction.

At the same time, rock supply operations are continuing, with 450,000 tonnes already delivered. These materials will complete the structure of the facility.

Installation made possible by the foundation works

The installation of the Accropodes™ follows the foundation works launched in mid-February 2026. This submerged base forms the foundation of the breakwater, ensuring the stability of the structure and supporting the protective elements.

To date, 75% of the breakwater foundation has already been completed, representing around 1,300 metres of breakwater built below sea level

The chatière: a key project for inland waterway access to Port 2000

The "chatière" is part of a wider project aimed at creating direct inland waterway access to Port 2000 in order to further develop river transport, in line with HAROPA PORT’s ecological transition objectives.

The project, with a total budget of €197 million, is funded as follows:

  •  €86,05 million from the Normandy Region
  •  23.6 million from the French government
  •  €11 million from the European Union (through the Connecting Europe Facility)
  •  €76.35 million from HAROPA PORT
