ecological and energy transition, rail : In Rouen, HAROPA PORT is rolling out a new Oleo100 biofuel supply solution for rail freight

As part of its energy transition and decarbonisation strategy, HAROPA PORT has launched a platform in Rouen dedicated to Oleo100 biofuel refueling on August 20, 2026. This infrastructure marks an important step in the development of more sustainable rail freight along the Seine corridor.

Infrastructure supporting more sustainable freight 

The new facility features B100 biofuel tank made from 100% French rapeseed (Oléo100), produced by the SAIPOL group.

Located alongside railway tracks, the site enables locomotives to be safely refuelled, helping to:

  • optimise logistics flows,
  • and to reduce unnecessary movement of equipment.

This infrastructure is part of the energy transition underway along the Seine corridor, with a clear objective: to reduce the carbon footprint of freight transport, particularly for the grain flows that are a major activity in Rouen.

A concrete step forward that helps make rail a mode of transport that is cleaner, more efficient, and more competitive! 

A fully equipped site tailored to operational needs

Designed to meet the technical requirements of rail freight operations, the platform includes several facilities and features:

  • appropriate road signage;
  • accessible to 44-ton heavy-duty trucks, with a turning area;
  • an electrical connection to power the facilities;
  • platform area and length compatible with operational needs.

The platform is also designed to accommodate additional logistics equipment as needed.

A concrete response to operators’ needs

This project follows discussions initiated in December 2024 at the Régiofret forum, during which rail freight operators expressed their need for refueling facilities.

It thus reflects HAROPA PORT’s ability to listen and its commitment to supporting its customers in their transition.

The project, led by the HAROPA PORT teams in Rouen, was carried out in close collaboration with industrial partners and technical teams.
